ADVANCED HEMORRHOID SURGERY

ahs1

Genrality:  An inflammation of blood vessels of the rectum (the end of the bowel) causes painful hemorrhoids.  Not all hemorrhoids need to be surgically treated.  Initially, hemorrhoids can be treated with over the counter remedies (topical cream, suppositories, and sit baths).  Prolonged inflammation and pain will require a more intensive therapy.

ahs2Rubber band ligation is an option; however, it causes pain and does not  prevent the hemorrhoids from recurring.

A recent  technique to definitively treat the hemorrhoid has been introduced.  It is called PPH (Partial Prolapse of the rectum and Hemorrhoid) surgery.  Briefly, the blood vessels feeding the hemorrhoids are eliminated, therefore the hemorrhoids cannot recur.  This modern method  of treatment  prevents hemorrhoid recurrence with little discomfort and early return to work, compared to standard techniques.

ahs3Anesthesia: For PPH surgery, general anesthesia or intravenous.

Type of Procedure: PPH surgery is performed by  using a special stapler which removes a small strip of the the inner lining of the rectum (the mucosa) and st the same time eliminates the blood supply of the hemorrhoids.

Recovery Time: Three to four  days.

Postoperative Pain: Minimal to moderate and well controlled with oral medications.
